Michael Dockery left his job as an accountant in 1995 and established his own business, Summit Electronics, which is located at 620 Washington Street in Dorchester.
While the original goal of Summit was to provide companies with the means of recycling disposition for old computers and components, and reselling when appropriate, its mission over the years changed to address the growing demand of end users of computer products.
Summit Electronics has evolved into a computer repair business that provides inexpensive game system repairs, computer and laptop repairs, scratched CD and disk repairs, as well as PC-CDROM software installation disks repairs. Dockery also markets reasonably priced refurbished computers.
Summit has taken its successful model approach to recycling computers and components and applied it to the needs of its multi-national, multicultural, computer community clients throughout Boston’s diverse communities. Dockery said after departing his accountant career, he taught himself how to repair computers by reading books and dissecting a variety of computers.
As owner, Dockery said he enjoys the freedom and flexibility of owning his own business. He also enjoys being able to save his clients from spending exorbitant rates on computer equipment.
Dockery urges seniors in the community to delve into computers. “It’s a big benefit,” he says, noting that the future is tightly connected with the use of computers. “That’s the future. Everything’s going to be done from home,” he said.
Summit Electronics’ hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can call (617) 265-6601 for more information.
